Is it the Shoes...July already?! [ Nike, Apple, Film & Tech]
2nd drop of "The Download: Keys & Codes": Musings I have about the recent Nike & Apple Film Deal, NYT Article and Photos I took my new shoes.
Damn, July already? A lot has happened in the first two months in Austin.
My life is a movie. Time to queue up “Call Me If You Get Lost” by Tyler, The Creator.
Working in VC has been fascinating, but one of the most interesting thing is to see how the world of culture, tech, art, and design is taking over… Particularly with the new film financing deal of Apple TV and Nike.
One of my mentors told me that “Collaboration is where the money is at”. As the economy is in a market correction, a trend that occurs is that companies and people will start to cut back their resources, layoff people, and save cash.
While that is happening, people tend to be more individualistic, but the smart ones are people who collaborate. The fact that two corporate giants are working together - Nike, Inc - a cultural conglomerate and Apple, Inc - a technological kingpin - are leveraging both of their businesses, personnel, and resources to add value to one another…
Hmm… seems legit. A lot has been happening, and one of my favorite films that Apple TV has created was Swan Song featuring Mahershala Ali. (Great one btw) and everyone should watch it.
Here is a snippet from my Sunday Musings on LinkedIn that highlights more about this trend.

Recently, I read an article about the cultural imprint that Nike, Inc. has left on the macroeconomic scale of business.

One of my favorite books is Shoe Dog, a memoir written by the founder, Phil Knight.
Nike is over 50 years old and I still can't get over the fact that another giant, Apple, has established a financing deal with Nike's production studio. Article: (https://lnkd.in/g9E2DbFK)
This further proves my personal investment thesis on culture, consumer tech, fintech, media, and health & wellness sectors.
I thought long and hard about it this past weekend when I went to take photos of my new Jordan 1's and Jordan 11's using my Canon Rebel T6. Here it was, in real time - I am capturing my own media moment, with one of my favorite brands, using technology to create art.
It's wild to see how art, tech, media, design, and economics take part in our daily lives without us even realizing the magnitude of their impact.
Anyways, let me know what you think in the comments!
